Boat ride in Korail Slum

After the stunning Parliament visit Sabbi too us to Korail Slum for a boat ride on the river. Here the river divides the rich from the poor. The enormous rich buildings on the river has the slum on the other side as their view and the other way around. Funny how the world is put together...

A shallow wooden boat with a "captain" takes people across. There seems to be no limit to how many people can fit on one boat when necessary. You sit on the floor or you stand up. The river is filled with garbage and kids make floats of garbage on which they fish and play. They make kites out of garbage bags and they were flying in the air all over us. The slum side is in really poor shape. It is like shanti towns which make housing and communities out of what can be found in the river, begged for or donated. In other words, not much.

As we got on our boat the sun was setting and we waved to many kids and watched many many people on their daily commute on the boats.
