Expected arrival in about 16 hours... A layover in Istanbul and from there straight to Dhaka. Sitting in an airport cafe trying to imagine what is to come. It is very hard to get any mental images or any insinuation of smells, sounds, language, taste... anything! Our part of the world is so structured and clean. Our environment is compared to what's to come, clear, safe, equal, taken care of, maintained and healthy. We know what to expect almost at all times and in every situation.
One and a half suitcase filled with things that some wonderfully and generous collegues have brought to me. Things like clothes, toys, shoes, bottles for infants, glasses, school material, books and more. Some of them have even contributed with money. Amazing! Can't wait to bring them to places and people where they are most needed and most appreciated. So many people need help...
Jason and Kaan will come from Amsterdam and Yaz and Ian will come from New York City and we will have the most special reunion in Dhaka, Bangladesh! Can't wait to see you guys!
My newly made friend Sabbi who temporarily lives in Dhaka will come and meet us at the airport and she has, with the warmest mind and heart arranged things in detail for us to feel welcome and well taken care of. It will be amazing to get to know her even better during this trip.
Here are some random pictures from the internet where I am trying to help myself get some mental images to visualize the coming environment in some ways... I have no idea how they correspond to reality.
